think we need to look very carefully, as i've discussioned, with director ford and chairman nolan and the deputy director is the issue of peak time taxi cabs and how we use the flexibility given to us by prop a to meet what i view is two very significant demands, related demands. one, there is a huge demand for consumer usage on friday and saturday nights and other peak times, certain holidays, certain event days. and given that demand there is a demand for drivers who want to drive that shift. and so what i suggest we do much in the way before to have significant community and industry input but to look at how we can together put a proposal, molding medallion drivers to drive those peak time shifts and allow the color schemes become corrective to meet the needs of the consumers who want cabs at those times. so i look forward to working with the chairman and staff on that. chairman nolan: would members consent or perhaps we could schedule sometime the next meeting the discussion about taxi priorities? >> that will be fine. i will take it one step further and even lay out some road

nolan: good afternoon. >> chair nolan, commissioner, director ford, members, i respect the fact that this item has been continued today. we know that it's been continued because probably people are a little bit concerned about the whole coming together of this whole piece of legislation and amendment of legislation. we're a small builder development community. we actually are not doing too much these days. that's one of the reasons we've come down in the middle of the day to talk to you. but we don't have the luxury to have phlegm monitoring amendments to the code and stuff like that. as pointed out by a fellow member there, you know, this came a sharp notice to us. this was the type of notification that went out. if you read that, this is going to affect the industry would not be able to follow this. i'm here today -- i worked with director ford on immigration issues, particularly with this -- with the fare enforcement program. and they did an amazing job getting everybody together and coming up with a very conclusive and proper approach. that was done through dialogue with eve

. people ask me why i am willing to give general motors and ford a break. that is personal and i have no problem admitting it. i give them a break because they gave my people a break. it is justifiable to have an argument that said we would not have a black middle class had we not had general motors, ford, and chrysler. go to detroit today to the old automotive neighborhoods, the difference in those neighborhoods from the 1950's and 1960's is that the blacks that were working in the plants than it did have a dream. they wanted their kids to run the plants. they wanted their kids to design cars and to the lawyers and so forth. and that is what their kids became. one of our chief farming correspondents at the washington post is a guy who grew up in a uaw family. does that affection translate into turning a blind eye to their families? no, i was probably more harsh on them for their failings than people who fancy themselves as being objective. we would have been throwing away our legacy as black americans and our legacy as americans. the idea that you would throw away manufacturing super
